CCAT Spatial Reasoning: Which one does not belong?
Here, a set of figures will be provided. All of them will have something in common, except one figure, which will be different in some way. You have to figure out which is the figure which is different (the odd man out).
In the CCAT, these questions usually appear as a set of four. The general pattern is that one or two questions will be hard while the rest will be quite easy.
The strategy in answering these questions is to figure out what is common to all but one of the figures. Then the remaining figure “does not belong” (is the odd one out).
Q1: Which of the following does not belong?
Answer: If you look at the innermost figure, this is a trapezium in all the options but C. In C, the innermost figure is a square (or diamond). Hence, C is the one which does not belong.
Q2: Which of the following does not belong?
Answer: Look at the figures in each option:
A: Square, triangle, circle
B: Circle, square, circle
C: Circle, triangle, square
D: Circle, square, triangle
E: Square, circle, triangle
In Option B, there are two shapes. In all the other options, there are three shapes. Hence, Option B is the one which does not belong.
Q3: Which of the following does not belong?
Answer: Look at the figures in each option.
A; Shaded Circle, triangle, star, square
B: Square, star, shaded square, shaded circle
C: Triangle, square, star, shaded circle
D: Triangle, shaded circle, square, star
E: Square, star, shaded circle, triangle
So, all the options have the same figures (though in different order), except for Option B. Hence Option B is the correct answer.
